When inserts are saturated

If the diaper inserts are soaked through, you have an absorption issue.

Maybe your baby has outgrown the absorbency. It often happens between the newborn diaper and one size diaper stage. It might be the time to move up to one size cloth diaper.

Check the diaper fitting  

Leaks due to fit most come from gaps between the diaper and your baby’s leg. You should choose the snaps or position the hook and loop so that the elastic of the diaper touches baby’s thigh all the way around. You should still have enough room to put two fingers between the diaper and baby’s skin and run your finger around the edge of the diaper comfortably.


If the diaper being snapped or fastened too loosely, it will leak often from the back of the diaper. You want to choose the snap or placement that allows the back of your diaper to lay flat against your baby’s skin with only enough room to do the same finger test to determine tightness.

Make sure that you are selecting the correct rise snap. If it seems like the diaper is pulling down in the front panel, you’ll need to go down a rise. If it seems like the diaper is too bulky in the front and you also notice some leg gaps, it’s time to move up a rise.

Too much absorbency can be bad as well and can cause leaks. Overstuffing is common, please try to avoid it. Overstuffing your reusable diaper causes the diaper to be so thick, that the leg elastics cannot touch your baby`s leg and leave a gap.

More does not always mean better.

Consider switching diaper inserts for better absorption. If you are using microfiber, which absorbs fast, but maybe not as much as our hemp cotton insert. Eliminate bulks by using more efficient boosters and diaper inserts.


Flooding

Lots of babies hold their bladder for a longer period, which can cause sudden flood into the diaper. It can be frustrating for
mothers because it often results in leaks. Try to use an extra booster (use our long insert in Pocket diapers) folded in half and place it where it needs. If you have a little boy, you want to use the extra booster in the front, if you have a little girl, you may use the extra insert toward back of the diaper. Remember: Put the fastest absorbing material next to your baby`s skin.

Damaged PUL/TPU

The PUL (Polyurethane Laminate) is the waterproof layer of your cloth diaper. This layer keeps in the moisture in the diaper. If it is damaged, leaks can occur.

The damage you see will most
likely see cracks in the PUL, mostly around the inner leg area. It will always be a source for leak, so make sure not to use a damaged diaper cover, pocket diaper or AIO with a cracked PUL.
